Fly Tying Video: Sort-Of-A-Pheasant-Tail by Hyrum Taylor

Mr. Taylor's philosophy is that a fly that takes longer than 5 minutes to tie is one that takes too long. Fortunately, the brevity of his time on the individual fly gives up beautiful results.

This makes a great lead fly when you are 'tight line' or Czech Style nymphing without strike indicators. This cleverly weighted and remarkably realistic worm imitator drifts with the hook-point up to reduce snag-ups and increase hook-ups.

Bead Head Wooley Bugger

Here's our newest fly tying demonstration --

Fished on 3X or heavier tippet, and a floating line, (or sinking tip when fishing an unweighted version) the humble Wooley Bugger can be stripped or dead drifted with amazing "quality fish" hook-ups.

You can do just about anything you desire when tying a Wooley Bugger. Aside from tying it in several colors (olive, white, rust, etc.) try removing the bead or the weight or both, adding rubber legs, barbell eyes, different colored wires, hackles, multiple colors of Marabou, throw some Flash down each side or just in the tail and so much more... enjoy!
